Using the third verse of the classic hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus,” as we pray.
Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge-
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there.
In this verse, we’re reminded that Jesus is our refuge (Psalm 46:1). If we’re burdened, worried, weak, or feeling helpless, He’s there to be our refuge and strength. Even when friends despise or turn their backs on us, we’re to go to the Lord in prayer. He’ll always take and shield us- no matter our condition; and we’ll find rest, peace, and comfort (solace) there!
Feel free to use the following prayer to help you start your time of praise, thanksgiving, confession, and petition. Continue on afterwards with words from your own heart and mind.
Sample Prayer: Lord, You are my refuge and strength! Your promises in Scripture are true, because You are true. Lord, right now, I feel week in (describe specifically what area(s)). Meet me where I’m at. I need you now, just as I always need you! Thank you for being near, and for bringing me rest, comfort, and care. You are ever-faithful and true! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
